Za’atar Roasted Nuts are such a great festive snack and also a great home-made gifting idea.

Relatively easy to make, full of flavour and as a gift – you will be top 5 in someone’s good books as its a very thoughtful, tasty gift.

I think I have always loved consumable gifts [Hello, chocolate?] but also because there is Zero-Waste [Or minimal waste] to them.

But what is a Zero-Waste Gift

According to The Sustainable Jungle “For holiday cheer that doesn’t turn into holiday eco-anxiety, consider giving zero waste gifts this year.

These are gifts that align with the philosophy of zero waste living: to send no (or low) trash to landfills or incinerators, thus minimizing impact by using compostable, or reusable products.

This boils down to low waste gifts that are compostable (or edible), digital, or reusable, and gifts that are packaged, shipped, and wrapped without plastic, too.”

I loved going through Kathryn Kellgg’s [From going Zero-Waste] list of consumables gifts and as she says “Consumables are great because sometimes you just want to give someone a real, concrete gift. There are some people in the world you want to give a gift to, but you don’t want to spend an hour or two with them.  I totally Get that”

  • Place your oven on to warm up to 120C and line a baking tray with wax paper.
  • Place the nuts in a bowl with the oil and spices and toss thoroughly to coat the nuts
  • Spread out on the baking sheet and place in the oven for 15 minutes
  • Toss every 5 minutes and make sure that the nuts are not browning too fast. They are best light brown. Make sure they are well coated in the spices and allow to cool. Then place in a jar and seal. They will stay fresh for months.

They are great as a snack or as a sprinkle for adding  extra flavour and crunch tp your meals.
