Mix all the dry ingredients together and then add in the warm milk, beaten egg and melted butter.
Mix together with a wooden spoon until combined – If you feel that it is a little dry you can add a bit of water.
Take out of the bowl and knead on a floured surface until smooth and elastic. Place in a clean and oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Leave in a warm place for an hour – until it has at least doubled in size.
Warm your oven to 180C.
Knock the dough down and knead again. Then, on a floured surface, roll out into a long sheet – about 20cm in width and 5mm thick.
Mix the soft butter, cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar together and smear all over the dough.
Roll length ways and then cut into 3 long strips – so that you can plait it.
Plait the long strips and then on a greased baking sheet place a side on the bottom, place on the pear, then wrap the plait around the pear.
Place in the oven and bake for 40 minutes or until brown on top.
Take out and allow to cool.
Serve as is or you can pour on some icing sugar and milk
