This deliciously pear loaf is the ultimate blend of sweet and spicy that is simply more-ish

  • Mix all the dry ingredients together and then add in the warm milk, beaten egg and melted butter. 
  • Mix together with a wooden spoon until combined – If you feel that it is a little dry you can add a bit of water.
  • Take out of the bowl and knead on a floured surface until smooth and elastic. Place in a clean and oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Leave in a warm place for an hour – until it has at least doubled in size.

  • Warm your oven to 180C.
  • Knock the dough down and knead again. Then, on a floured surface, roll out into a long sheet – about 20cm in width and 5mm thick.

  • Mix the soft butter, cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar together and smear all over the dough.

  • Roll length ways and then cut into 3 long strips – so that you can plait it.

  • Plait the long strips and then on a greased baking sheet place a side on the bottom, place on the pear, then wrap the plait around the pear.

  • Place in the oven and bake for 40 minutes or until brown on top.
  • Take out and allow to cool.
  • Serve as is or you can pour on some icing sugar and milk
