Pearl barley is barley grain that has been processed to remove the outer hull and bran. This pearl barley is a hearty, tasty grain with a light nutty flavour and delightful chewy texture. It is great in soups, hotpots and stir-fries.

Uses:

It is not necessary to pre-soak pearl barley; however it does require a good quantity of liquid when cooking. If including barley in soups or hotpots add it at the beginning of the cooking process with 3-4 cups of water or stock and allow approximately 45 minutes cooking time.To cook pearl barley as a side dish, simmer 1 cup of barley and 3 cups of water or stock, covered on a low heat for about 45 minutes.
